Day Five

Today, let’s focus on what God has to say about your desire to be in control.

Set aside 20 minutes on your calendar to sit with a few questions. You’ll want this time to be distraction-free, so turn your phone off and focus on being completely present.

Let’s start by

BREATHING

Take a three deep breaths and to settle your soul.

When you are ready,

PRAY THIS PRAYER OF SURRENDER

Jesus, I am not the King.

I give everything and everyone to you. I surrender my desire for power and influence. I surrender my desire to be approved of by others. I surrender my desire to be comfortable. I surrender my desire to be in control.

Jesus, I want what you want.

SLOWLY READ

Isaiah 45:5-7 NIV

“I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other. I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.”

ASK GOD A FEW QUESTIONS

God, what causes me to try and control my life?

God, what do I believe about control?

LISTEN AND SURRENDER

Embrace the silence and fight the urge to speak. Be in the presence of God and listen for his voice.

As God directs your thoughts, think about your desire to be in control. Focus on the last time you tried to control every detail of a situation. Or, think about a recent moment where you manipulated someone to be in control. Visualize what that looks like; what it feels like.

With open hands, offer your desire to be in control back to God in an act of surrender.

“God, I surrender the illusion of control. You are God and I am not. Only you know what is best for my life and I trust that you are in control.”

WRITE IT DOWN

Grab your journal and write down your thoughts and anything God may be speaking to you.
