Surrender
Control is an illusion.
Deep inside we know this but grasp for it anyways. We often try to manipulate life’s outcomes rather than aligning ourselves with God, trusting that he knows best. Sometimes we think we even trick ourselves into believing that we are in the driver's seat and can make life happen on own.
But the reality is that we are not in ultimate control because we are not God.
When we refuse to surrender control we end up carrying more of life's burdens than we were designed to and our soul suffers. Ironically, the more we fight for control the more it produces worry and anxiety.
This doesn’t sound like life to the full does it?
So what do we do?
We do what Jesus showed us how to do; we surrender.
The practice of surrender is laying down what we want and yielding to what God wants. It is intentionally giving up the illusion of control and trusting that He is God and He knows best.
Surrender is a daily practice that takes time to learn. But, on the other side of surrender is freedom that brings peace and joy knowing that we can trust God.
